Dan Grosvenor is a Principal Recruitment Partner on Astute’s Power O&M desk, specialising in recruitment across the UK power sector and beyond.
From technicians and operators to plant managers and operations directors, Dan has successfully placed candidates in roles across the UK, USA, Europe, and even the Ascension Islands.
For Astute’s Our People series, he spoke with us about his journey into recruitment, his recent achievements, and his advice for aspiring recruiters.
How did you get into your role at Astute?
I knew two people working here from my social network, and they had been trying to get me to join for a few years once I completed university.
After moving back from Bournemouth and graduating, I applied for a role in the Power Team and never looked back.
What do you do for Astute?
I recruit for roles within the power sector across the UK, covering everything from technicians and operators to plant managers and operations directors.
Beyond that, I’ve also worked on international recruitment projects across the USA, Europe, and Australia, including some niche roles like those in the Ascension Islands.
A key part of my role is leading Crewing Up projects, where we manage large-scale, bulk recruitment for new-build sites. I’ve been fortunate to successfully lead most of these projects during my time at Astute.
What is your favourite thing about working at Astute?
The variety.
While every day involves speaking to candidates and clients, no two roles, plants, or locations are the same.
I enjoy learning about the different sites, the people who operate them, and the processes that keep them running.
Visiting sites and seeing how everything works first-hand is one of the most interesting parts of the job.
What have you enjoyed most about your recent projects?
Recently, I was involved in the entire bid process for a major project, from working with the marketing team to develop literature to handling the commercial agreements needed to secure the deal.
It’s something I’ve been working towards for years, and seeing it pay off with the biggest project we’ve won to date has been incredibly rewarding.
What is the most exciting thing about your role?
Making placements.
Nothing beats the feeling of matching the right candidate with the right role and seeing both the client and candidate benefit from the partnership.
What advice would you give someone who is looking to join Astute?
Be prepared to invest time in learning the sector.
The best recruiters take the time to understand the roles, the client base, and the processes behind them.
Ask questions. Clients and candidates love talking about their jobs and what they’re passionate about.
And finally, develop a strong memory!
Being able to recall past roles, candidates, and locations will help you work more efficiently and make placements faster.
