Tim Norford is Head of Renewables at Astute.
For the latest in the Our People series, he spoke with Sam Bradshaw about choosing a career in Renewable energy recruitment over being a singing policeman.
How did you get into recruitment?
After seven years as a singer in an international harmony group, I decided on a career change and was accepted into the police.
On the way back to celebrate, I popped into Sainsbury’s in Portsmouth and saw a recruitment agency.
I’d always been curious about a career in recruitment, so I popped in to learn more, and the rest, as they say, is history.
What roles have you filled recently and at what types of companies?
I fill permanent and contract roles across all of the Renewable Energy sub-sectors, which include Wind, Solar, BESS, Green Hydrogen, Decarbonisation Solutions, Alternative Fuels…the list goes on!
The roles are all incredibly varied, from Administrators to Chief Engineers and Managing Directors.
What is your favourite thing about working as Head of Renewables at Astute?
The mutual respect, camaraderie and the people. The atmosphere is brilliant and there are no egos.
What have you enjoyed most about your recent successes?
My team’s progression.
As Head of Renewables, seeing them overcome tough moments and their different successes is where I get the most enjoyment from.
What is the most exciting thing about your market?
The size of the opportunity and the varying technologies we can work with.
What advice would you give someone who is looking to join Astute/recruitment?
Have a chat with someone who works here, anyone, and they will give you an honest assessment of their time here.
Reach out to me too, connect with me on LinkedIn, and I’ll give you the honest truth about how tough the role is and what it takes to succeed here.
