Responsibilities and duties

As the General Manager, you will report to the Charity Trustees and be responsible for a variety of key tasks, including:

  • Leadership: Overseeing and leading the work of CEA staff members.
  • Secretariat support: Providing the Council of CEA Members with secretariat support according to the CEA constitution and Charity Commission regulations, including formal meetings like the AGM and Council meetings.
  • Financial stability: Ensuring the continued financial stability of the CEA.
  • Service enhancement: Enhancing and improving services offered to CEA members.
  • Event management: Identifying conference/seminar activities and venues, and hosting such events.
  • Partnership development: Developing working partnerships with appropriate organisations.
  • Membership growth: Seeking out new members for the CEA in response to changing technical and environmental landscapes.
  • Youth engagement: Ensuring that CEA grows to reach new and younger members in the future.

The CEA’s four guiding principles

Education

The CEA collaborates with UK universities, research institutions, and students to foster combustion engineering education. 

They provide:

  • Accreditation schemes such as BOAS, I-GAS, and SBWT.
  • Advice on all aspects of the industry for both members and non-members.
  • Development of products and services by members, for members.
  • Research into emissions and pollution control.
  • Networking opportunities for research projects through our members and industry contacts.
  • Approved Training Providers are used for this.

Representation

The CEA works with various professional representation groups to enhance the member experience. 

By partnering with similar associations and trade bodies, the CEA gain increased knowledge on topics such as PM5 replacement with INDG436 and BG01, IED, LCPD, MCPD, RHI, climate change, and the Clean Air Act.

Professional qualifications

The CEA is looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Engineering background: A qualified engineer in any discipline, with an HND or degree being ideal.
  • Industry experience: Experience working in boiler, combustion, or utility sectors.
  • Charity experience: Any experience working with or alongside charities, with an understanding of how they operate, would be highly beneficial.

The ideal candidate for the General Manager role will possess:
